|About the Book|
This book is designed for undergraduate students as an introduction to the academic study of and research into educational issues. It seeks to support students as they become critical thinkers and active researchers. Joss West Burnham and Orlagh McCabe introduce some of the key issues and debates, and offer models for working when carrying out research in education.Examples of student work and research are used throughout to guide the reader in good practice, to help develop critical thinking and to facilitate them in making creative links between aspects of culture, society and educational policy. One of the key differences in studying within the area of education is that fact that none of us comes to this subject without having preconceived ideas and experiences of our own. This book will demonstrate how we can actively use our own experience and perceptions to critically engage with the current and past debates. Education is about bringing change - or is it? The studies you are about to embark on and the examples within this book will help you to decide the answer to such questions as this through the processes of your own reading, reflection and critical engagement.
